Martin Size 3 Mahogany Guitar
In Martin's earliest years in the New York shop, guitars
were often offered with a choice of fancy hardwood veneers over a spruce
back.
For the remainder of the 19th century, Martin built nearly all of their
guitars with Brazilian rosewood backs and sides.
The rare exception were earlier size 3 guitars built with mahogany backs
and sides.
