1840's Martin X Braced Spanish Style Guitar
This example marks another important historical transition, combining the
Spanish design with a mature modern X-brace.
The historian of early Martin guitars Bill Capell believes this example to
be possibly the first example of a Martin guitar to have the mature
version of the X-brace, saying in his essay "Early C.F. Martin
Guitars": This is the earliest known example of this style bracing
that would go on to become the standard for all modern acoustic guitars."
This is one of the few examples of a Martin guitar in the Spanish style to
have two piece sides divided by simple lines, with similar lines forming a
backstrip which extends to the heel cap.
